Chocolate Almond Tart

Chocolate Almond Tart

 Tart dough

Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ cup almond flour or ground almonds

¼ cup granulated sugar

8 tablespoons (1 stick) cold butter

1 large egg

1 tablespoon cold water

Chocolate ganache filling

½ cup almonds toasted and chopped

Directions:

1.     In a large mixing bowl combine flour, almonds, and sugar. Grate in butter. Using your fingers press the butter into the flour mixture until it begins to form a dough.

2.     In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and cold water. Add to flour mixture and gently stir until combined.

3.     Transfer dough to a pie plate or a tart dish. Using wet hands to prevent the dough from sticking, press dough into pie plate. Place the prepared pie plate in the freezer while the oven is preheating to 350 degrees.

4.     Bake the tart dough until bubbly and golden brown, about 35 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.

5.     Make the ganache filling. Once the tart dough is cooled, add ganache and top with toasted chopped almonds. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.

Serves 8.

Chocolate Ganache Filling

Ingredients:

10 ounces Semi sweet or milk chocolate chips

2/3 cup heavy whipping cream

2 tablespoons butter

1 tablespoon brandy

Directions:

1.     In a medium bowl add chocolate. Bring cream to a simmer in a small saucepan. Do not let the cream boil. Once hot pour over chocolate chips and let stand for 5 minutes before stirring well. Once the chocolate is melted and combined with the cream, add butter and brandy, stirring until melted.
